You are watching: How to make a hair bump
Much like a mini beehive, the hair bump is created by taking a section of hair from the crown and backcombing it at the roots. This ‘bump’ of lifted hair adds a retro feel to the look with a fun throwback to the ’60s – think of a modern-day Holly Golightly.
So, get your styling tools at the ready, as ATH have curated an easy tutorial to walk you through creating a chic, everyday hair bump…
How to do a hair bump
First things first, you need to give your mane a texture boost!
Brush through your hair and spritz it with the VO5 Dry Texturising Spray to add texture, refresh your roots and help your style last longer.
Now grab your comb and divide the hair into small sections at the crown. Gently backcomb each section towards the roots to create a voluminous, lifted hair bump.
Next use a brush to smooth out the surface of your hair, being careful not to undo or disturb any of the backcombed roots.
Pull all the hair back into a ponytail and tie it with a hairband at the nape of your neck. Make sure it’s loose enough so your backcombed hair bump is not pulled flat against your head.
Take a loose strand of hair from your ponytail and wrap it around the hairband to conceal it, securing it in place with a bobby pin.
Make sure you have no unwanted flyaways or loose tendrils and then secure the style with the VO5 Ultimate Hold Hairspray.
Spray it from front to back, concentrating on your hair bump.
That’s all there is to it. It’s never been so easy to add a chic touch to your everyday look!
