CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – A famous Lowcountry disc jockey has passed away.

Frankie the Big Bopper played old school and the blues every Saturday on radio station Magic 107.3. Most know him for his signature Saturday morning show, “The Devastating Juke and Jam Show.”

He supplied Charleston and surrounding areas with social content, and a combination of blues and soul music that was unique to the city.

During Black History Month, News 2’s Carolyn Murray featured “Frankie the Big Bopper.”

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WCBD) – On Tuesday, Congressman James E. Clyburn expresses approval for the $245.8 million in tax cuts given to South Carolina families with children for the month of August.

Democrats in Congress passed monthly Child Tax Credit payments into law to help families recover from the struggles due to the COVID-19 pandemic by helping to relieve some of the high costs of childcare.

CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – Two men who attempted to steal an ATM on Johns Island have been charged with safecracking and grand larceny.

Andre Omar Martin, 20, and Torrence Ramon Whitaker, 30, were allegedly involved in a group of individuals who attempted to latch an ATM to a stolen vehicle last week, according to the FBI.
